A Walk to Remember - Saturday Oct. 4th, 2008
There is no time limit to grief. The idea that we can cry and ache for a few days, weeks, or months and then get back to everyday "life as usual" is an uneducated notion. After the loss of a friend or loved one there is no such thing as "life as usual".
Walk to Remember honors the thousands of steps in the process that each of us takes to heal the wounds in our hearts and spirit.
Join us on Saturday, October 4th at 9:00 AM at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ and Walk to Remember as your personal tribute to your loved one.
All are welcome to take part – adults, children, seniors and teens. This is a casual walk with no athletic fitness requirements. This is not a competition.
P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll ArizonaTMMarathon & 1/2 Marathon - January 14, 2007
Dear Friends and Family,
Most of you know me, and you know my story of loosing my husband, daughter, and oldest daughter's best friend in a car accident three years ago.
For those of you who do not know me, my non-profit organization link is www.safeharborsupport.org to learn more about me.
I will be running my very first marathon on January 14th, The PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll ArizonaTMMarathon.
Before our car accident in August of 2003, I had just started training for my first marathon only a few months prior.
Due to the accident and needing to spend months in physical therapy, I was unable to finish my training.
In 2005, I decided to start training for the 2006 marathon.
Unfortunately, a few months prior to the marathon, I was rear ended, and spent time healing emotionally and physically.
In June of this year, I began my training again. I am training myself, and so far so good.
I have registered for the marathon, and now I need your help!
I am setting out to reach my goal of raising $5,000.00 for Safe Harbor Support.
Here is where you come in.
I am asking that you sponsor me $1.00 for each mile run. The marathon is 26.2 miles, so you would donate a small amount of $26.20.
The best part is, you can write this off with our tax id number!
All I ask, if you do decide to donate to this remarkable organization, please find three more friends who will donate as well.
You can go on to our website under support and pay by credit card, or you can mail a check to:
Safe Harbor Support Inc.
PO BOX 854
GILBERT, AZ 85299-0854.
You can go ahead and pay, or choose to pay after I complete the marathon.
Please e-mail me your commitment, and I will e-mail you how I am doing in my running, and how many miles I completed.
Please keep me in your prayers as I plan to run 20 miles this Saturday.
Training for this marathon has been a true challenge of my thoughts.
I do know, the only thing that is keeping me from completing this marathon is simply a thought.
Please keep me in your vision of completing this marathon with energy and ease.
Also, if you choose to donate more than $26.20 you are welcome to do so!
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Karla Whelchel
